Since its inception, Young & Associates has been involved (new buildings, new building additions, building renovations/alterations) in more than 200 commercial building projects, but we recognize that further growth in building design and related projects requires an individual able to focus full attention to that element of our business. To that end, Young & Associates seeks a creative, driven and technologically savvy, registered Architect with 5 to 15 years of experience.


Job Description:

The successful Architect candidate will manage and be responsible for growth of the Commercial Building Division of our business. The position will entail:

  • Responsibility for commercial building projects from start to finish
  • Responsibility for Division staff (CAD Designers, HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing Designers, future positions dictated by growth)
  • Aggressively pursuing publically-funded projects (i.e. school, college, municipal, housing, etc.)
  • Responding to RFP’s
  • Attend professional meetings with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Participating in various aspects of a project including programming, design, research, production and administration
  • Collaborating with owners, consultants and contractors
  • Communicating with City, municipal, PADLI and/or 3rd party Code administering agencies for permitting and approvals
  • Coordinating with construction team through all phases of project delivery


Education/Skill Requirements & Character Traits:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering
  • Professional/Registered Architect Certification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Communications Proficiency: Superb verbal and written communication ability
  • Hands-on experience with LEED project documentation
  • Design sensibilities and graphic skills
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Photoshop and other design software a plus
  • Ability to integrate aspects of Design, Technology, Practicality and Sustainability into every project
  • Work effectively on a project team
  • Basic Skills using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage and lead the Commercial Building Division and foster a working relationship with peers, subordinates
  • Ability to grow the Commercial Building Division
  • Driven to excel
  • Familiarity with the UCC, International Building Codes, Accessibility Laws and requirements
  • Office Professionalism
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask assigned projects
  • Ability to understand all facets of commercial buildings, plans and construction, with a general working understanding of MEP systems
  • LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) or similar experience with other Green Building standards, energy conservation or sustainability, is a plus
  • Working knowledge of LEED certification and/or Energy Star, is a plus
  • Awareness of security design and healthcare facilities, is a plus
